Everyone who lives in Western Montana knows where Ravalli Hill is. Driving North from Missoula to Kalispell, Ravalli hill is approximately 40 miles North of Missoula. As you crest the hill heading North, the mission Mountains pop up seemingly from nowhere., and they are impressive to say the least. There's a water fall (Mission Falls) that runs all year long and you can see it dead ahead as the mountains come into view. I have hiked up past the water fall a few times, and it is one steep hike. If you have never noticed the water fall, look closer next time you travel that way. There is a rest area at the top of the hill you can take photos from. The rest area is closed during winter, but you can still stop and take photos.

Yeah, that hill can get pretty slick at times all right. I have never had studded tires because I don't like swapping them twice a year and all the added expense. I've been pretty lucky and never had a problem there. I think that hill is 6%.

This hill is the reason I won't go another year without studded snow tires! I found out the hard way that my little Toyota Yaris is NOT good on icy roads, so I just stayed home most of the time. Winters last too long in MT, it's not good to be held captive by lack of good snow tires. Yes, I will do something about it before next winter! Look at all the beauty I'm missing on days like this one Bill recorded. Wow, Gorgeous day!
